What is going on, mushroom fam? Have you missed me?
Hard to believe it’s been nearly 6 months since our last update. Feels like forever ago — and it certainly has been. So much has changed, but then again one thing is still the same.. and that one thing is that mushrooms are still as fascinating as ever! And guess what? I’m here to continue the mission of teaching you all about them! Let’s get into it.

Iowa Fungi’s Update of the Week
The boys returned to the farm last weekend and the first crop of the year is officially in progress. Going to try things a bit differently this year, which will hopefully yield better results. The mushroom dream is still alive and this is the year we finally commit to making it a reality. So look out for more updates to come, cuz I promise they will!
Mother Nature's got our backs when it comes to clean air, and it all starts underground. Mycorrhizal fungi, these badass fungi networks that live symbiotically with plants, are like the ultimate air filtration system. Plants suck up pollution and convert it into sugars that feed the fungi, and in return the fungi provide the plants with nutrients. It's a win-win for everyone, especially us humans who get to breathe clean air.
But hold up, this sweet setup is under threat from our not-so-sustainable ways. Scientists are warning that human activities are messing with these underground networks. The article calls on leaders to step up and take action to protect the soil so these natural air filters can keep doing their thing. Let's keep the party going and breathe easy thanks to the power of nature!

Mushroom Season is here, tips and tricks for a better hunt
Looking to forage for some fungi this season? This article is serving up all the intel you need to have a successful mushroom hunt.
First things first, legality. The article outlines where you can and can't mushroom hunt. Hitting the jackpot in Brown County State Park, Yellowwood State Forest, Hoosier National Forest, and Morgan-Monroe State Forest is A-OK, just don't get greedy and try to sell your finds on the side. Hunting in nature preserves is a big no-no, and private property is off-limits unless you get the landowner's blessing.
For your hunt, the article suggests packing some essentials: water, a snack, and a good sense of direction (getting lost while mushrooming is not the vibe). A mesh bag for your finds is also key, and here's a cool tip: keep the water you use to wash your mushrooms for later – you can use it to propagate more mushrooms in your backyard! Now that's what I call a hustle!

Medical psychedelics should not be cast in the same light as illicit drugs
Calling all psychonauts and wellness warriors! This article is here to fight for your right to trip responsibly.
Apparently, there's a movement to categorize medical psychedelics with stuff like street drugs. This article is shutting that down hard. Psychedelics are having a moment in the medical world, showing promise for treating anxiety, depression, and even addiction. The article argues that lumping them in with illegal substances is a major buzzkill for scientific research and potential breakthroughs in mental health treatment.
Think about it: therapy with a licensed professional, microdosing under controlled conditions – that's a far cry from back-alley drug deals. The article emphasizes that responsible psychedelic use is about healing, not getting high. Let's keep it legit, safe, and moving the science forward.
